Fun, friendship and faith on the menu for Kildare and Leighlin diocesan family picnic in Punchestown
Sunday 27August from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m

A fun packed and entertaining programme has been finalised for this free event for families from across the diocese. Among the activities on offer will be face-painting, stilt walkers, a pet corner and lots of children’s activities and games. Along with an official opening at 3 p.m., Bishop Denis will lead a 4km fun walk around the race track.
Included on the day will be a display of UN vehicles from the nearby Curragh camp with military personnel on hand to share stories about the Irish contribution to the UN peace-keeping force.
A full programme of music and dance has been drawn up which will include local choirs and dance groups as well as some very special surprise guests, including Irish country music star Derek Ryan and renowned Irish soprano Celine Byrne.
So spread the word among your cousins, grandparents, aunts and uncles and get your family picnic ready to bring to what promises to be a great afternoon of family fun. Bishop Denis is looking forward to seeing you there regardless of the weather, though lots of sunshine is expected!

HERITAGE WEEK IN MILLTOWN
A photo exhibition of old families and events in the area will be held in the old school in Milltown, starting at 2pm on Sunday, followed by a walk around the local area. Historian Paddy Behan will be in attendance. If you have old photos we would be delighted to scan them on the day. The old school will be open each evening during Heritage week from 6pm to 8pm. A photo of the bog body found in Barronstown will be on exhibition. Any photos to Betty O’Shea at 086 3397844.

TOWER OF ALLEN - As a part of Heritage Week in Kildare, the Tower of Allen on the Hill of Allen will be open as follows: Saturday 19th to Sunday 27th August (inclusive) from 10am to 6pm.

We are always looking for new members and men who are retired or between jobs are most welcome to join us. We are presently involved in restoration of an old Mini and a Ferguson tractor, woodworking and gardening in a polytunnel. We meet every Tuesday and Thursday at the ACDAL complex from 10am to 1pm.

Our Junior A ladies are through to semi final of Championship, details to follow.
Our U-15 girls are due to play Celbridge at home on Saturday 26th August.
This Autumn we have two U-13 teams, our Division 2 team are due to play Sarsfields away and our Division 7 team will face Sallins 2 at home on Thursday 24th August. Please try and support our underage girls in their Autumn League games.

Hard luck to the boys who lost to Athy. Home to Monread in the league on Saturday at 5 o’clock in Robertstown.

BALLYTEAGUE GFC
The club would like to extend our sympathies to the Somers family on the passing of Michael. Ar Dheis De go raibh sé.
Hard luck to our Senior team who were beaten by Suncroft at the weekend on a scoreline of 1-12 to 1-14. Despite Ballyteague leading throughout most of the game, Suncroft battled hard to level the score and eventually kicked on to secure victory. The lads now have one more round remaining and will need to win to secure a place in the quarter finals.
The Senior Reserve Championship semi final is provisionally fixed for Monday 28th August. Opposition, venue and time TBA.
Underage Training every Tuesday and Friday from 7 to 8p.m. please make sure all children have gumshields. Can all parents please make sure they check in at every training. Lotto tickets are also available to purchase at training.

ALLENWOOD GFC
The seniors to play in the second round of the championship this Sunday August 20 at 3pm in Hawkfield. We wish Ronan and Management and the Panel of players the very best of luck. Congratulations to the Senior B on their win over Clogherinkoe Monday night last, it leaves them in the semi-final of the championship. Final score read Allenwood 0-13 Clogherinkoe 1-03.
Plans are underway for our fun day for all with numerous activities to take place on the day. This will include our usual barbecue, obstacle course etc. If you are interested in helping out please feel free to contact a committee member. A great day promised for young and old.
