Allen Parish Newsletter 30th July 2017

30th July

Hidden or buried treasure sounds like an adventure story. This is intended by Jesus. Finding the kingdom of God is like an adventure in which there is a treasure that we did not expect to find, that fills us with wonder, tension and drama. Not everyone finds this treasure, which is what makes the story exciting.

Jesus could have said that the man dug up the treasure and took what he wanted and left the rest out in the field for others to find easily, but he doesn’t. The man hides the treasure again.

We who find the treasure of the kingdom of God will come to understand, that it is more valuable than all that we have – all that our lives consist of. The Treasure of the kingdom of God does not fit nicely or easily into the lives that we have already constructed for ourselves.

“A parable leaves you with sufficient doubt about its meaning to tease the mind into active thought”

Many thanks to all for your generous response to the Trocaire Emergency Collection last weekend. A total of €1,600 has been sent to Trocaire.

It was great for us in Allen Parish to be with the rest of our Diocesan family of Parishes at the 2017 Kildare and Leighlin Pilgrimage to Lourdes. About 1300 of us joined with other Diocoeses making the experience of the pilgrimage from the opening ceremony to the closing ceremony very special. We thank our Parish Priest Fr. Willie Byrne for his help and support at all times and also Mairead Ashe for her great help throughout the pilgrimage. We thank Patricia Durkan for organizing the bus and PJ Coyne for taking us to and from the airport. We thank Marie and John Donohue for the lovely work they did preparing the Parish Banner for the occasion along with Roisin Malone and all the Parish Youths for their enthusiastic work. A big thank you to our Parish Secretary Margaret Cramer for her help and support. Thanks to all who prayed and supported us as a Parish helping to make the Pilgrimage such a great success.
