Ireland’s Greatest Teenagers

Congratulations to Milltown Foróige Youth Club on getting through to the National Finals for the Permanent TSB Youth Citizenship Awards for the second successive year.  This year the principal project of the club is the expansion of Jumping Jellybeans, an inclusive club where children and teens with special needs are welcome to join their peers and participate through sport and drama.  The club was set up by Milltown Foróige last year to meet a huge need in Milltown (there are 10 children in Milltown with special needs).  The difference the Club has made to the lives of these young people with special needs is immeasurable. They now have a sense of belonging, of being part of a club, of having plenty of friends and of having a place to ‘hang out’. The Jumping Jellybeans Club now operates in Milltown, Newbridge and Naas.  A basketball team has also developed from the three clubs.  A Facebook page and email address has been set up to create awareness about Jumping Jellybeans and the Club has now featured on the Irish Autism Action website and has received compliments from groups and parents nationwide.

Another welcome development is the setting up of Láidir le Chéile, a support group of parents and carers of all children with special needs.

In addition to qualifying for the national finals, Milltown Foróige Club has recently been selected to participate in a TV programme called Ireland’s Greatest Teenagers, to be shown in the Autumn.

Milltown Foróige Club are very grateful for all the support they are receiving from individuals and groups in Milltown and elsewhere.
